The SBS offers doctoral programs, which confer a Ph.D. degree. This program is designed to train students to pursue an academic career such as that of a college/university professor or researcher in the field of business and management. Accordingly, more emphasis is placed on the applicant’s academic standing and achievements for admission. In particular, the applicant’s academic background in quantitative analysis is carefully evaluated, taking into account his/her potential to develop analytical skills and competence.

In addition, we select applicants with a TOEIC score over 800 or equivalent English skills, consistent with the university’s Globalization goal. Through review of the applicants’ academic and career backgrounds and in-depth personal interviews, we evaluate whether they coincide with the university’s leadership, community and ethics standards as well.

The SBS expects students in Ph.D. programs to acquire the knowledge and skills as follows:
● Students should possess knowledge and skills on research methodology and quantitative analysis enough to do scientific research independently.
● Students should be able to do logical reasoning and its capacity to conduct academic research.
● Students should demonstrate in-depth knowledge on their major area by conducting research and publishing research outcomes.
● Students should understand and abide by ethics required for researcher.

In 2006, SBS renowned for its academic superiority remodeled Ph.D. program in order to cultivate outstanding academic scholars and researchers. Sogang Graduate School of Business developed a Ph.D. program that includes 11 areas of management. 2 years of courses are comprised of preliminary courses (statistics, economics, research methodology), core courses, electives. Students develop expertise in an area through intensive course works and also need to present and publish academic journals before graduation.
